I purchased our tickets today. Everything has been going so well and so quickly the past couple of weeks. With adoption, I think alot of us (and probably alot just me) wait for the other shoe to drop. Kind of like holding your breath for 1.5 years. I don't like to live like this. A few of my friends can attest to this attitude with me. It's a self defense mechanism. I have protected myself a bit from being terribly hurt. But, you had to see me when I got the message that we were traveling. I got out of the car and was jumping up and down. I came in the house and jumped up and down. I called people and jumped up and down. It takes a bit for a 41 year old woman to jump up and down! It is finally time for me to be OVER THE TOP excited. And, I am. All of the worrying is done, and yet, is just beginning. aaahhhhh Motherhood, here we come.
I spent about 1 1/2 hours talking to my friend Jeannette today about kids and adoption and transracial families and how we deal with racism as those transracial families. Wow, I am so lucky to have her and many, many others to share all of this with. I am forever grateful.
Tonight marks the beginning of a crazy busy weekend. Mom and Dad are gracious enough to come help me with a few things tomorrow. I got a new garage door today and my back gate fixed. Tomorrow, many, many little projects. Babyproofing. Well, some of that may have to wait until Birhane is home. How much will she get into??? Is she one of those kids that never opens a drawer or is she going to tear through here like a tornado? Do I need to get rid of all of the lamps and pad the corners? Right now, I will settle for locks on the under sink cupboard, gate at the top of the steps, and some outlet covers. I will get grandma to clean some of the toys that have been sitting in the basement for months and grandpa to fix the front door and put up a laundry shelf.
Lucy also gets to check out a new boarding place. I took Buck to http://www.pawsresort.com/ for the last 4 years of his life. I highly recommend them if you live in the south/west metro. They are worth the drive. However, with a baby, I have been re-thinking the 35 minute one way drive. I checked out http://www.dogdaysinc.com/ . They are just a 5 minute drive from my house, but I was disappointed. Tomorrow, Lucy will check out http://www.dogdaygetaway.com/files/cams.html . My neighbors Diane and Mark take their dog Schooner there and love it. Just a 20 minute drive.
The next 19 days prior to travel are jam packed with all sorts of fun stuff. Two showers. Only 10 days of work. I'm sure I'll fit some "just about me" time in there. A pedicure, maybe a "last supper" out. Not that I'm really even going to miss that kind of thing. Expensive, adult only dinners out used to be a regular activity for me, but have become nearly non-existent. My last meal was with my friend Margaret at http://www.craftsmanrestaurant.com/. Usually, "eating out" is now the Whole Foods salad and hot food bar! My type of fast food is Punch Pizza and Panera. No McD's or BK for me. Ok, I'm getting off subject...
Hopefully I will be able to make some kind of post while we are traveling, or will give Kristie my password to make a post. Rest assured we will be posting when we arrive home with a plethora of photos.

the days are getting closer for your travels and she will be in your arms. She is very beautiful and I am sure you can't wait to hold and breathe her in. When I hear Teddy call me Mommy, it is the best feeling in the world. I can't wait for you to experience that also. See you on the 7th. Karen K.
