from the beginning

I made my final decision on September 4, 2007. I turned in my application to CHSFS to start down the road towards adopting a baby from Ethiopia. Adoption is something I have seriously been thinking about for about the past 3 years. I have always wanted children, just always thought I couldn't do it alone. I also wasn't so sure if I wanted to do it alone. But with most things with me, I plan, scheme, and figure it out. Yes, I can do it! I do have the resources and the brains and the parenting ability. Since making the decision, I have to come to feel a peace or rightness about my choice. I'm at a good place in my life. CHSFS accepted my application and I am now awaiting Preadoption Classes (PAC) October 18 + 19 at CHSFS. My beautiful mom, Joanne will be attending with me. I think she is excited to have another grandchild! It will be great to have the support and the extra set of ears and eyes. Following that, the agency will do an adoption study where I meet with a social worker 2-4 times. We will discuss many things including my financial and employment status. She will visit my home to make sure it safe and adequate for a child. We will be discussing my parenting style. Something especially important for myself as a single person, we will discuss my support system. I have a wonderful family and friends that are excited about having another Baby Nord around.

I have much to think about in the coming year... I will be sharing information about Ethiopia, the adoption process, transracial adoption, attachment, my life, and cute baby things in the year to come! Please follow along!

DeeAnn, Mom just told me the other day that you had decided to adopt! I'm so excited for you! I know you'll be a good, caring, patient Mom! You have great role models to follow! Good luck with everything and I hope the process all goes well!
Take care, see you soon!
